Obituary: May Watson Hoffman

May Watson Hoffman, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Aug. 8, 2007, at Flagstaff Medical Center.

Born in Superior, Ariz., on May 25, 1921, the youngest of three children, May Watson graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Phoenix, and began a nursing career that spanned 48 years. She met and married her sweetheart, Elden Hoffman, a Fremont, Ohio, native, and they lived in Tiffin, Ohio, for 32 years, where their love story included raising their 10 children. May worked at Mercy Hospital, mostly in Labor and Delivery and the ER, ending her service there as night supervisor. May and Elden retired to Prescott, Ariz., in 1989, where they enjoyed making new friends, traveling, visiting children and grandchildren, and just being together. In 2003, shortly before they were to celebrate 60 wonderful years together, Elden passed away. May moved to the Peaks in Flagstaff after a short stay at Peridot Assisted Living in Prescott.

May is survived by all of her children, who were able to thank her in person during her brief terminal illness: Ron (Boynton Beach, Fla., with Dee Ann Terrell), Rick (Austin, Texas, with Dixie), Christine (Miami, Fla.), David (Plano, Texas, with Hiya), Monica Sue (New York City), Patrice (Ellicott City, Md., with John Halt), Mary (Alamosa, Colo., with Gene Schilling), Dan (Flagstaff, Ariz., with Anna), Tom (Mobile, Ala., with Marilyn Grobschmidt), and Timothy (Prescott Valley, Ariz., with Barbara Bohlier). She also left eight grandchildren, Rick, Bob, Lisa, Fred, Alex, Sydney, Michelle and Marissa; and five great-grandchildren.

She belonged to St. Mary's Church in Tiffin, Sacred Heart in Prescott, and San Francisco de Asis in Flagstaff. May and Elden worked hard to provide all their children Catholic educations. Donations in her honor to supplement the Elden G. Hoffman Scholarship Fund may be sent directly to Calvert High School in Tiffin, Ohio.

Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at St. Pius Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date in Prescott.

Condolences can be sent to the family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com.
