Pet Adopt-A-Thon returning to PetSmart
We have some exciting news! Last May we participated in PetSmart's first Prescott Adopt-A-Thon. The event was so successful PetSmart is sponsoring another Adopt-A-Thon. The Yavapai Humane Society, along with other rescue agencies in the community, will again join together to participate in this upcoming adoption event. This will be a three-day program to be held at the Prescott PetSmart store located west of the Costco store off Highway 69. We will be at PetSmart from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16. On Sunday, Sept. 17, we plan to be there from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many wonderful, adoptable pets will be there for you and your family to meet. We will have dogs, cats, puppies and kittens of all ages, colors, and sizes looking for loving, lifetime homes. Each animal has been spayed or neutered, and each has their basic vaccinations. While you're attending this event, we invite you to enjoy a free hotdog and soda on us. Our staff and volunteers will be manning the grill all three days, so come hungry!
For the past month, the team at YHS has been gearing up for this Adopt-A-Thon. Our shelter is currently filled with dogs and cats available for adoption, and many of them will be at this adoption event. We ask that everyone who is considering the adoption of a new pet stop by PetSmart the weekend of Sept. 15-17 to check out the dogs and cats waiting for a new home. These pets are deserving of a second chance to be part of a loving family. Families who adopt a pet during this event will get a special new PetSmart Pet & Parent Guide that includes a free premium food offer, as well as valuable PetSmart coupons for pet supplies/services, all to assist with the start-up needs for their new family member. If we can find suitable new homes for all the animals present at the Adopt-A-Thon, it would be a dream come true.
We are very excited because this will be a fun-filled weekend, allowing us to show many pets looking for new homes. However, only a sample will be on hand, as there are so many looking for new homes. As our community continues to grow, so does the pet population. And we can't stress enough how important it is to spay or neuter your pets to reduce the number of homeless animals.
We also want to stress that if you do adopt a pet from one of the rescue groups at the Adopt-A-Thon, please do so because you truly want a new family pet, and understand the responsibilities that accompany your decision. Remember, acquiring a pet is a family decision and a lifetime commitment. Few things are more stressful for one of our animals than being returned to the shelter because the adopter was not properly prepared to take on the responsibility of pet ownership. However, even if it's not the right time for you to adopt a pet, come on out and take part in the festivities anyway. We'll spring for a hotdog and a soda!
We hope to see you at the PetSmart Adopt-A-Thon the weekend of Sept. 15-17. Please mark your calendar.
