Local Dancers win many awards

PRESCOTT ­ The Dance Studio's performance team RhythMotion in recent months has earned several top awards at dance competitions and conventions.

In mid-November 2005, Alex Bates, Katie Boggs, Aubree Dagilis, Aubrey Eriksen and Kayla Wexler attended a Kids Artistic Revue event, and Bates earned two Top First awards for jazz routines, and Eriksen earned a Top First for her lyrical routine.

Judges selected both Bates and Eriksen for KAR All Star awards, which include invitations to a weeklong dance event in New York City in July.

The trip will include workshops, a get-together with the Rockettes and Broadway shows.

In late November 2005, the Junior and Senior Companies competed in the Dupree Dance Convention in Phoenix.

The Senior Company earned 10 Grand Awards for its group and solo performances and a Top Award for its lyrical routine "El Shaddai." Senior Company member Lilly Englehard auditioned for and won a scholarship for this year's Dupree Convention.

Feb. 18 and 19, company members attended the Showstopper Competition in Phoenix.

In the Recreational Division, The Dance Studio's group earned Platinum awards for jazz routines "I Gotcha" and "Fever."

Also in the Recreational Division, the Star Company's jazz routine "Fun, Fun, Fun" earned a Gold First and a First Place Overall, and the tap routine "Pennies from Heaven" earned a Gold First and a Third Overall.

Emily Thompson performed a musical theater routine to "Money" and earned a Silver and a Second Overall. Aubree Dagilis performed a musical theater routine to "Little Jazz Baby" and earned a Gold First and a First Overall.

Kayla Wexler's "Maria" and Kelsey Bergstrom's "Feelin' Good" both earned Gold Firsts in the Competitive Division's Jazz age 15 to 16 category.

Aubrey Eriksen's "You Raise Me Up" earned a Gold First in the 15-to-16-year-old age division, and Alex Bates earned Platinum awards for both of her musical theater routines, "Baby Face" and "Steppin' Out."

"Steppin' Out" also earned Second Overall in its division.

Lilly Englehard performed "My Strongest Suit" and Kattie Boggs performed "1,000 Oceans" and "Popular." Both girls earned Silver Firsts in the 13-to-14 division. Wendy Seastrand received a Gold First place for her routine, "Bye bye Blackbird," for which she also earned First Overall in her division.

"I Can Only Imagine," a trio featuring Katie Boggs, Alex Bates and Lilly Engelhard earned a Platinum award and a Third Overall among the duo-trio routines in that division.
