Owen Victor Resetar

Owen Victor Resetar, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Bob Stump VA Medical Center in Prescott. He was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Whiting, Ind.; the son of Michael and Susan (Cingle) Resetar.

Owen served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on Nov. 9, 1945, at Ft. Ord, Calif. Owen met and married the love of his life, Grace Courtright, on May 7, 1949, and they shared 56 loving years together. He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church and American Legion Post #40 in Chino Valley. Owen had served on the church council many times and served the church as head usher for 18 years.

Owen loved to repair things; all his family would have to do was leave the item on his work bench, and he would have it working in no time. He also enjoyed building things. Owen was proud of his family and the home they made together.

Owen is survived by his wife Grace of Chino Valley; daughter Susan Resetar of Chino Valley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Eleanora Courtright; niece Ruth (Frank) Angotti; nephews, Eric (Debra) Courtright, Bill Courtright, Richard (Beth) Courtright, Timothy Slota and Thomas Slota and their wives. Owen is also survived by his great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and by his four legged friend "Dolly" and grand dog "Ki-Ki."

A Celebration of the Funeral Mass will take place at 10 am. Saturday, March 4, at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Chino Valley. A private cremation was held at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley.

Mary Ann Forney Adams

Mary Ann Forney Adams, of Prescott Valley and San Diego, Calif., passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on Monday, Feb. 27, 2006.

Mary Ann was born in Lisle, Ill., to Howard and Edna Arnold Forney and raised during the lean 1930s to early 1950s. Mary Ann, along with her sisters Ruth, Joan, Sue and Sharon, savored growing up in the Midwest during those simpler times.

As a young adult, Mary Ann headed west with her two children, Steven and Sandra. Mary Ann married the love of her life, Ralph Adams, in San Diego on August 10, 1963. They shared 24 years together before Ralph passed away in July, 1987.

After retiring from San Diego State University - West Commons, Mary Ann began to make frequent visits to see her daughter and family in Prescott, eventually buying a second home in Prescott Valley.

Mary Ann was active in an aerobics swimming class and loved to cook, knit, hook rugs and play board games, bingo, Bunko and dominoes. Mary Ann was endeared to her church family members at Prescott Valley Christian Church in Arizona and La Pressa Community Church in California.

Mary Ann practiced the golden rule and greeted each day with unbridled enthusiasm. She delighted in simple pleasures and enjoyed music, movies, traveling, dining out with friends, watching "Wheel of Fortune," baking goodies for friends and family, praying and offering assistance for those in need and spoiling her grandsons, Scott and Sean Spiewak, ages 16 and 14.

Visitation will occur on Thursday, March 2, from 5-8 p.m. at Heritage Mortuary, 131 Grove Avenue in Prescott. To acknowledge Mary Ann's deep abiding faith, a Christian memorial service will be held on Friday, March 3, at 4 p.m. at Heritage Mortuary.

Mary Ann will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego at a later date.

Mary Ann leaves behind her daughter, Sandra Franklin Spiewak; son-in-law, Scot Spiewak; and grandsons, Scott and Sean; her son, Steven Gibson and daughter-in-law, Eva; and her sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Betty and Ed Nelson; and her cousins, Don Forney and Arlene Begeska.

Additional family members include Clarence and Barbara McQuillan, Helen Spiewak and dear friends Shirley and Todd Myers, Jean Rise, Janet and Dave Morningstar, Matt and Eileen Showalter, and Fred Henderson. Mary Ann also leaves behind countless friends from Cameron Estates Mobile Home Park; Marie, Andrew, Ron and all the great folks from Victorian Estates, Mary Lee and the ladies from the swim class, and numerous friends from San Diego State University, her wonderful neighbors and extended family.

Mary Ann was the sweetest, most generous and compassionate woman you could hope to meet. It is hoped that those of you whose lives she touched will continue her legacy of goodness.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Edna Forney, her husband Ralph, and son-in-law, Robert Franklin.

Harry Joseph Carl, Jr.

Harry Joseph Carl, Jr., age 51, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at his home in Prescott Valley. He was born Oct. 13, 1954, in Fullerton, Calif.; the son of Harry Joseph and Martha Leona (Barth) Carl.

Harry is survived by his loving and caring wife, Laura; children, Amanda (Michael) Miszcak of Dewey, Ariz. and Jessica Carl of Etiwanda, Calif; brothers, James Carl of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Thomas Carl of Arvada, Colo.; sisters, Cindy (Ray) Golombecki of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Tammy (Michael) Dodson of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Carol Hankla of Arvada, Colo., and Tina Carl of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Aidan and Megan.

A visitation will take place for Harry on Saturday, March 4, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

John Richard Stevenson

John Richard Stevenson, 63, of Scottsdale, died suddenly in his home on Feb. 24. John was born to Russell and Alma Stevenson on Dec. 26, 1942.

He grew up on a farm in Langdon, N.D., where he learned his tireless work ethic. After graduating, John enlisted in the Army and spent two years serving in Germany. He then moved to the Twin Cities and started his business career. He rose to the ranks of VP of Administration at Valspar Corporation. Valspar Corporation acquired McWhorter Technologies where John was placed as CEO.

John Successfully spun McWhorter Technologies into a stand-alone public company until his retirement in 1999. Through his retirement he continued to participate on a number of boards. John retired to Arizona with his wife, Jolean. He enjoyed his retirement by golfing, painting, traveling and spending time with his family.

His greatest joy was his grandchildren. John was truly a great man. He donated blood monthly at the Red Cross and taught English in an adult literacy program. He worked in a prison outreach program and donated many hours with public works in Arizona.

John is survived by his wife, Jolean Stevenson; his brother, Dale Stevenson; his two children, Brian and Jill; and his four grandchildren, Emma, Dominic, Avery and Victor. He will be dearly missed.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013.

Nina Lucille Lombard

Nina Lucille Lombard, 84, of Prescott, passed into Heaven Feb. 24, 2006, at Freedom Plaza Care Center in Peoria.

Nina was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Whitewater Colo. She was raised on her parents working cattle ranch in South Western Colorado.

Nina and family moved to Phoenix in 1951, then made their home in Prescott in 1965.

Nina loved to cook and was an avid gardener. She loved the outdoors and her trout fishing. She got real enjoyment out of the many pets that she had throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald F. Lombard, and a daughter Kathleen Kay Scott of Indio, Calif.

She is survived by her brother, John Vincent of Cordes Lakes; sister, Ruth Phoenix of Bosie, Idaho; son, Donald J. Lombard of Wilholt; daughters, Sandra McCluskey of Phoenix, Linda Reardon of Prescott, and Deborah Lane of Phoenix.

Nina had 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Cremation will take place in Peoria and a celebration of her life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal shelter of your choice.

Joan M. Curran Fuhst Grutzmacher

Joan M. Curran Fuhst Grutzmacher, 73, of Prescott, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Prescott Samaritan Village, Prescott.

She was born Sept. 19, 1932, the daughter of James and Nora (McCann) Curran.

Joan was a faithful and devout Christian who sang in the choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Prescott. She was also a volunteer for People Who Care and at Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Joan worked at the IBM Corporation in New York for 24 years as a data services manager.

Survivors include her husband Ted; sons, Steve, Cliff, and Terry; step-daughters, Paula, Gail, and Janet; step-son, Karl; sister, Nora; three grandsons, Joshua, Chris, and Jeremy; five step-grandsons, Joshua, Tyler, Ryan, Matthew and John; and three step-granddaughters, Jennifer, Dana and Jenna.

Joan was always there for friends, family and even people she just met, always extending a warm, sincere Irish smile. She is now with her family in God's paradise, where we will join her in God's time.

A funeral mass took place on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury Avenue, Prescott.

The family requests that donations be made in Joan's memory to People Who Care, 505 W. Gurley St, Prescott, AZ 86301.

Billy Banks McElvoy, 83, of Prescott, born July 26, 1922, in Kentucky, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, in Prescott.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Pacific View Cemetery in Newport Beach, Calif. A celebration of Billy's life memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Prescott.

Edgar L. Mateer, 77, of Mayer, born July 20, 1928, in Coxsackie, N.Y., died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, in Prescott.
