Cliff Byson

Cliff Byson, 91, died from this earth on Jan. 14, 2006. He was born April 9, 1914, in Algona, Iowa, where he was raised. In the early 1930s, he moved to San Diego, Calif.

Cliff served on a PT boat for the U.S. Navy during World War II and was among the first troops to land on Japan after surrender.

He was a building contractor for over 50 years, a fine craftsman who took pride in the many homes he built in and around the San Diego area.

In 1994 he and his wife, Vera, moved to northern Arizona to be near their daughter, Tricie, son-in-law, Dwayne, and granddaughters Sabrina and Amanda. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and has a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.

Cliff will be deeply missed by his wife, Vera, of 55 years, but will live on through her memories of wonderful times and their travels throughout the nation.

Berit Gerrard

Berit Gerrard, a resident of Prescott Valley since 1971, died at home on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006. Berit was born on July 7, 1923, in Oslo, Norway, and came to the United States to work for one year in 1956. During a visit with a friend in North Dakota in 1957, she met and later married her husband, Clair (Dick) Gerrard.

In 1971 the family moved to Prescott Valley. Berit worked in the Humboldt School cafeteria and later with the lunch program at Lake Valley Elementary School from which she retired in 1983.

Berit had many interests including, Homemakers, Girl Scouts, Toastmistress, food bank, volunteering at the library, Republican Women, Scandia Club, prayer cell, painting, and knitting among others.

She has many friends and has left a lasting impression on the many that have known her.

Berit is preceded in death by her husband, and son Clair. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa and six grandchildren.

Rosary services will be at 10:15, with commemoration services in honor of Berit at 11 a.m., Tuesday Jan. 3, at St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley. Internment at Humboldt Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Disabled American Veteran's Association, P.O. Box 4292, Prescott, AZ 86302.

Antonio B. Sanchez

Our wonderful dad, husband, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, Antonio B. Sanchez (Tony) died at his daughter's home in Prescott, Ariz., on Jan. 27, 2006, alter a brave battle against cancer. Tony was born July 25, 1929, in Clarkdale, Ariz., to Francisco and Josepha Borboa Sanchez. There he was raised with 16 other siblings. As a young man he made the decision to join the U.S. Army. Tony married Beatrice Quijada from Jerome and later married Virginia Johnson on Jan. 1, 1981. They celebrated their 25th anniversary earlier this month.

Tony worked in Prescott for the VA Medical Center as a nuclear medicine technician. He and Virginia later relocated to Salt Lake City where they had their home for 26 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; his children, Terry Johnsen (Mike), Liz Sanchez, Margie Bundrick (Dale), Sue DeRemer (Bill), Mike, Joe and Juan Sanchez, Rich and Reid Smith; 21 granchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jessie (Connie) and Henry (Mary) Sanchez; 6 sisters, Sister Cecelia, Lola Sanchez, Alice Espitia and Joyita Moncilbaez (Arturo), Lorrainc Perez (Richard), Veronica Blevins; and many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank Hospice of Utah and Yavapai for their care.

A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. prior to his memorial mass that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fluery, Prescott. Cremains to be interred at a later date.

Michael Scott McSpadden, 43, of Prescott, born Feb. 9, 1962, in Santa Monica, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his home in Prescott.

Graveside services with full military honors will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

The Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Ruth I. Russell, 89, of Prescott Valley, born April 13, 1916, in Boonesville, Ark., died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, in Prescott.

Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Sunrise Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.
