Patricia K. Sinanovic

Patricia K. Sinanovic has gone home to be with the Lord, and to have a reunion with her mother, father, and brother.

Patricia was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa. She left Iowa at an early age and spent her adult life in Arizona. She moved to Tucson in 1953 and to Phoenix in 1955. She moved to Prescott in 1974 and remained in Prescott until the time of her death, Jan. 3, 2006.

Patricia worked as a cashier for A.J. Bayless, Safeway and as a Sky Chief for American Airlines. In 1977, she joined the Golden Rule Chapter 1 of the Order of Eastern Star, at which time she met Edna and Lew Thompson, whom she immediately loved and adopted as her “Mom & Dad.”

Her years as an officer through all the star points of Eastern Star were approached with love and professionalism, serving as Worthy Matron in 1982. From 1985 to 1987 she and her Mom and Dad traveled the states, including New Mexico and Michigan as Grand Representative of Michigan in Arizona.

One of her happiest times were having all her family and extended family home for the holidays. She loved cooking the big dinner and having all the kids for Christmas; (but all had to stay out of her kitchen) that was her happiest time of the year. She loved all the children as if they were her own.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother, brother-in-law and 6-year-old step-granddaughter.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 34 years, Hanson; son, Jerry Palmer; daughters, Linda Finch and Debbie Gaffney; grandson, Tom (Patricia) Gaffney; and granddaughters, Carla Finch, April and Shanna Palmer; step-daughters, Diana (Terry) Atchley and Pamela (Walt) Parsons; step-son, Steven (Loretta) Sinanovic; step-grandchildren, David and Micheal Taylor, Trevor and Sara Sinanovic; great-granddaughters; Jessica, Brianna, and Seirra Gaffney; sisters, Paula Wagner, Mary Erickson; and several nieces and nephews.

Family receive neighbors and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez. A celebration of Patricia’s life will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at the Arizona Wakelin Funeral Home. Joshua Eugene “Gene” Taylor

Joshua Eugene “Gene” Taylor, age 96, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in Atlanta, Ga.

Predeceased by his first wife, Josephine Cooper in 1972, and his second wife, Margaret Palmer in 1988. He is survived by his son, Josh Taylor of Atlanta, Ga.; stepson, Ben Kingree of Covington, Ga.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

A native of Marion County, Mo., he was the son of Joshua Booten and Grace McLeod Taylor. He graduated from the Unitversity of Iowa in 1931, with a BA degree in Mathematical Science, and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and worked for Metropolitan Life in New York, and then moved to Nashville in 1938 to work for National Life and Accident Insurance Co., until retirement in 1970 as Underwriting Vice President. He served in WWII as a lieutenant with the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Washinton, D.C., and Pearl Harbor from 1944 to 1945. He was a founding member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Nashville, and was a former Warden and active member of the choir. He was a life master in the American Contract Bridge League, and active lightning class sailor with the Harbor Island Yacht club, and played golf at Belle Meade Country Club. Gene traveled extensively to all 50 states, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. In retirement, he studied Spanish and traveled and lived in Mexico for a full year. In retirement, he moved first to Long Boat Key, Fla., in 1971, and then to Prescott in 1977, where he designed and built a beautiful home. His other retirement interests included studying genealogy, hiking, seven Elder Hostel trips, and duplicate bridge. He also enjoyed photographing people and places where he traveled, and meeting new people through his travels and interest in family history. He traced the Taylor and McLeod lines back to the Revolutionary War period and uncovered many interesting stories.

In 1955, he moved to Atlanta to be closer to family, and took great pleasure in seeing his grandchildren form their own families and spending time with his extended family. He enjoyed a good drink of scotch, but consistently shopped for the least expensive drinkable brand. When asked why he did not drink one of his favorite brands, he explained “…After all, I am Scottish.”

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church at 4393 Garmon Rd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30327, on Jan. 14, 2006, and a reception will follow in the parish hall.
