Six lives lost on Fain Road this year

PRESCOTT Six people have died this year in three traffic collisions on Fain Road.

Sunday's crash the latest claimed the lives of Frank Joseph McGuire, 82, and Josephine Feiten, 76, both of Prescott.

The 12:15 p.m. accident happened when a 1999 Lexus SUV tried to make a U-turn in the roadway and a 2004 Dodge pickup broadsided it near Lakeshore Drive.

McGuire, who was driving the Lexus, died at the scene, while paramedics airlifted Feiten, who was his passenger, to John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix where doctors pronounced her dead.

The driver of the Dodge truck, a 51-year-old Phoenix man, suffered minor injuries. Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies issued no citations in this case and alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident.

In March, two Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University students Zachary Rutledge, 20, and Laura Breen, 19, and their friend Joel Menzel, 19 died when their Pontiac Firebird, crossed left of center and collided with a southbound Dodge pickup. The pickup driver suffered minor injuries. Weather and speed appear to be factors in that accident.

And, in February, Nichole Hatton, 27, of Prescott Valley died on Fain Road after her vehicle also veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a dump truck.

Meanwhile, Department of Public Safety officers investigated a non-injury accident on Sunday night at milepost 319 on Highway 89A near Side Road. The crash led to the arrest of Ronald Leonard, a 46-year-old Prescott Valley man.

DPS Sgt. Mike Hardt said the 7:09 p.m. single-vehicle collision happened when Leonard lost control of his 1985 Chevy station wagon that was pulling a trailer. The trailer rolled over leaving behind a trail of debris.

Hardt said an officer booked Leonard in the Yavapai County Jail on suspicion of DUI/drugs.

Officers believe that other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but left the scene. He said investigators are still working to establish who was in the car although Leonard admitted to driving the Chevy.
