Max J. Borjon

Max J. Borjon was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Jerome, Ariz. He was one of 10 children born to the union of the late Max and Inez (Juarez) Borjon.

In August 1944, Max entered the U.S. Army.  He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War.  He was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Star Medals, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal (8th award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Korean Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished Unit Citation, Combat/Expert Infantryman Badge (3rd award), National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars and five Overseas Service Bars.  After 30 years of faithful, honorable and highly decorated service to his country, Sergeant Major Borjon retired from active duty service in 1974 while stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

While stationed in Japan, Max met and fell in love with Hisako Hayashi.  They were married in Fukuoka on May 22, 1951.  Max and Hisako were blessed with four daughters, Maxine, Patricia, Inez and Ernestine "Tina."

After retiring from the military, Max worked at the John Knox Village in St. Robert for about six years.  He later worked in Civil Service for 10 years at Fort Leonard Wood.  Max was a member of the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176, the American Legion Post 331 and the Harry Herron Memorial DAV Chapter 49.  Max was an active member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in St. Robert until his health failed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and photography.

Max went home to be with his Lord the morning of Monday, April 17, 2006, in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 4 days.

Max will be very sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his wife, Hisako of the home; four daughters, Maxine Borjon of Durham, N.C., Patricia Borjon of Tustin, Calif., Inez Neeley of Waynesville, Mo. and Tina Woods of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Isabelle Borjon of Prescott; one brother, Julian Borjon of Prescott; nephew Max Borjon Lopez of Prescott; 6 grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Max was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dolores Borjon, Lupe Borjon Lopez and Frances Roybal; and four brothers, Alfonso Borjon, Reyes Borjon, Jesse Borjon and Robert Borjon.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with Chaplain (MAJ) Father Matthew Pawlikowski officiating.  Organist Joung Ok Lee accompanied soloist Sara Woods as she sang "Amazing Grace."  Assisting Father Pawlikowski as servers were Jack Gregory, Agatha Douwnar and Charlotte Voudrie.  Serving as escorts were Julian Borjon, Mark Holmes, Max Borjon Lopez, Alex Neeley, David Neeley and Rick Woods.  Serving as honorary escort was Skyler Borjon-Holmes. 

Burial followed in the Resurrection Cemetery.  Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert. 

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Max Borjon to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Margaret Mullany, 90, of Paulden, born Sept. 16, 1915, in Edinburgh, Scotland, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in Prescott.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Chino Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Chino Valley.

Irene Thelma Curtis, 82, of Prescott, born Aug. 14, 1923, in Renton, Wash., died Thursday, April 20, 2006, in Prescott.

A private cremation will take place at the Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley.

George Norman Roiland, 64, of Paulden, born August 5, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., died Friday, April 21, 2006, in Prescott.

A celebration of George's life will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Christ Church of the Valley on 67th and Happy Valley Road in Glendale, Ariz. Private cremation will take place at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley.
