Donald Lee Gergen

Donald Lee Gergen, age 67, of Prescott, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005. He was born in Kearney, Neb., on Dec. 9, 1937, and retired to Prescott in 1997. Don succumbed after a nine-year battle against Alzheimer’s.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of San Francisco in Organizational Behavior. He began his career at the Sacramento Bee in 1958, continuing on as a mailer and late union president until 1984. In 1985, he continued his career with the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner as a mailer, serving as president and principal executive officer of the Northern California Mailers Union #15 from 1994 until his retirement in 1997.

Don’s thirst for knowledge and gentle soul was demonstrated in his love of travel and his unwavering devotion to his friends and family. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Prescott, as well as Prescott Lodge #330 BPOE.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Linda Sue McCallum Gergen of Prescott; son, Blake Gergen of Everett, Wash.; daughter, Laurie Shreffler (Ed) of Antelope, Calif.; granddaughters, Natalie and Olivia Shreffler of Antelope, Calif.; brother, Richard Gergen (Beverly) of Ashland, Ore.; sister, Kay Richardson (Don) of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; aunt, Doris Nutter of Roseville, Calif.; uncle Albert Waite (Eileen) of Riverside, Mo.; cousin, Gus Ahlstrom (Mary Ann) of Clarksburg, Calif.; and brother-in-life, Richard Jacinto (Tunie) of Sacramento, Calif.

The family will have a private celebration of Don’s life at a later date. The interment will be at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, the family request remembrances to be sent to Hospice Family Care of Prescott, 100 E. Sheldon St. Prescott, AZ 86301, or to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 2000 Shepherd’s Ln., Prescott, AZ 86301.

Howard D. Kingsley

Howard D. Kingsley, age 88, died Sept. 10, 2005, in Fallbrook, Calif. Howard lived in Fallbrook for four years and was a resident of Prescott for 14 years. He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Perry, N.Y.

Howard was a Baptist minister for 17 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie C. Kingsley in 2003.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bruce Black and Kathleen Kingsley of Fallbrook, Calif.; sister, Marian Jeffers; three grandchildren, Dawn Salzmann, Daniel and David Black; great grandchildren, Michaela, Charis Mae, Cyrus, Gabriel and Isaac.

Services for Howard have been held.

Richard “Dick” Sullivan

Richard “Dick” Sullivan, age 75, of Prescott, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2005, at his home in Prescott. He was born March 26, 1930, in Santa Ana, Calif., to Joseph and Frances (Rhynalds) Sullivan.

Dick had been a resident of Prescott for the past 10 years.

Dick retired in 1992 after 40 years in the newspaper business. He enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and spending time with his family and his pals at the American Legion Post #6.

Surviving are his brother, Ted of Prescott; his sons, Jeff of St. Croix Falls, Wis. and Scott of Davis, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in June of 2005.

Dick’s family will hold a private service at a later date.

Betty Lou Adams

Betty Lou Adams, 76, of Prescott, born July 25, 1929, in Benham, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in Mesa.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott, with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott.

Beth Harmon Gunn

Beth Harmon Gunn, 78, of Prescott Valley, born June 3, 1927, in Tucson, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, in Prescott Valley.

Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix.

Charlotte E. McKay

Charlotte E. McKay, 86, of Prescott, born June 16, 1919, in Ray, Ariz., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Arizona Pioneers’ Home.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Lukes’ Episcopal Church.
