PRESCOTT – A 79-year-old man died in Prescott Friday afternoon when, witnesses said, the truck he was driving crossed the centerline of Highway 89 near milepost 317 in the Granite Dells around 1:15 p.m., hit a rock wall and turned on its side.

Sgt. Rich Gill of the Prescott Police Department said the man, whose name authorities had not released as of Friday afternoon pending notification of his family, was driving a 1990 Mazda pick-up truck south on the highway.

Health issues may have caused him to lose control of his truck, Gill said.

No one else was in the car with the driver, and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Witnesses performed CPR on the driver until firefighters and paramedics arrived, a press release from the PPD said, and they pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
