Motorcycle accident on 69 kills one
MAYER An accident involving a motorcycle on Highway 69 resulted in a fatality Sunday afternoon.
According to Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials, the accident occurred at approximately 4:19 p.m. at milepost 270 on Highway 69. No cars were involved.
Fire Chief Glen Brown of the Mayer Fire Department said the accident involved two people a man and a woman. He said investigators believe the man was driving the motorcycle and the woman was the passenger.
Authorities pronounced the woman dead at the scene, Brown said, and an ambulance took the man to John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix for possible head and neck injuries. Rescue crews opted for the ambulance, instead of a helicopter, because of weather conditions, Brown said.
Neither person was wearing a helmet, Brown said, adding that doing so may have lessened the man's injuries; however, it may not have saved the woman's life.
Further details of the accident including the couple's identities and hometowns were unavailable at press time. DPS is investigating the accident.
