Lefty was born in Selz, N.D., Sept. 30, 1933, to Fred and Mary (Richter) Hintz.  Lefty was raised in the Selz and Harvey area, moving to Lostwood, N.D., with his parents at the age of 17.  There he met his wife, Coleen (Corky) Jackson, whom he married Aug. 8, 1953.  Lefty entered the U.S. Army in November of 1953 and served stateside for two years.  After returning to North Dakota, he worked for Oil Field Service before joining Montana Dakota Utilities where he was employed for 30 years.  During this time he and his wife lived in Stanley, N.D., Crookston, Minn., Watford City, N.D., and Valley City, N.D., where they remained until 1994 before moving to Prescott Valley.

Lefty suffered a major stroke Dec. 3, 1989, but lived at home until he entered Mountain View Manor in August of 2003.  Prior to his stroke, Lefty was known for his pool shooting ability, winning numerous tournaments throughout the state of North Dakota.  He will also be remembered for his unique sense of humor and wit.
