Grace H. Williamson

Grace H. Williamson was born on July 6, 1909, to Ella and Ashley Harris, in Virgil, S.D.

She grew up in South Dakota as an only child. Following her graduation from Huron College in 1930, she spent several months in Bulgaria, teaching English. On May 25, 1932, she married John Danforth "Dan" Williamson. After teaching for a couple of years, they settled in Aberdeen, S.D., where Dan managed the Social Security Office from its inception in 1935, until his death in 1963. During those years, Grace raised her two girls and furthered her education. She became a Medical Technologist, and worked at St. Luke's Hospital for a few years. Then she became a professor of Biology at Northern State College, specializing in micro-biology.

After she retired from teaching in the early 1970's, she lived many different places, including Hawaii and Jackson, Wyo.; primarily California, living near her daughter, Anne, and being a hands-on grandma. She enjoyed traveling with both family and friends, gardening, and caring for babies. She was a nanny for several families during this time.

On Oct. 3, 1988, she married Clement L. "Clem" Williamson, and they settled in Albuquerque, N.M. They enjoyed traveling and attended several Elderhostel programs. Finally, failing health dictated a move to be near her daughter, Pat. She and Clem came to Prescott in February of 2002. Grace passed away on May 27, 2005, in Prescott, at the age of 95.

She is survived by her husband, Clement; her two daughters, Pat Pearson of Skull Valley and Anne Van Nuys of Macdoel, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
