Giovanni Luigi Furgeri, age 80, of Prescott Valley, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, after a long battle with renal failure.

He moved to the United States after WWII from Genoa, Italy. One of his most proud moments was becoming an American citizen on Dec. 13, 1967.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Furgeri; grandchildren, Aaron and Kristen; and numerous family members in Italy and South America.

A memorial will be held in August.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at ElderBuilders and YRMC Hospice for all of their support and comfort given at this difficult time. God Bless you all!

Maxine (Reaume) Hulsey, 83, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2005, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

She is survived by nieces, Karen (Jim) Roberts, Beverly (Peter) Alexander, Pamela (Greg) Craner, and Janet Johnson; nephews, James (Roberta) Bradley and Ronald Bradley; and many extended nieces and nephews.

Maxine and her husband, Joe Reaume, moved to Prescott in the early 1950's. They owned Bruno's Buffet Bar on Miller Valley Road for many years. Maxine was not only one of the bartenders but occasionally the bouncer. She also tended bar at the Palace and Matt's bars.

Joe died in 1971. In 1976, Maxine married Dan Hulsey. They were married until his death in 1985. Maxine used to host the children's Christmas party at the Eagles Lodge. Even though Maxine never had children of her own, one year the Eagles Lodge named her "Mother of the Year".

Maxine loved cooking, especially for a crowd, did beautiful embroidery and is probably fishing at some big lake in heaven.

Aunt Mack, thank you for being such a big part of our lives. We are going to miss your laugh, your whimsical old sayings and your strength. Your love will always be with us and we will miss you.

Helen (Augustinus) Ackermann died peacefully in Prescott on June 21, 2005, at the age of 94 years. Helen was born May 8, 1911, in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Penn., to Paul Hansen and Meadora Ellen (Bosworth) Augustinus. Her grandparents were Jorgen and Ane Magrette (Knudsdatter) Hansen of Denmark and John Clark and Rosetta (Bennett) Bosworth of Winsor Twp., Brookings Co., S.D.

Helen attended grammar and high school in La Grange, Cook County, Ill., and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-

Urbana, Ill. She moved with her husband Harold to Scottsdale in September 1969 and to Prescott in 1985.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, whom she married Nov. 25, 1932; her parents; sister, Charlotte Carpenter; daughter, Audrey Deutscher; and grandson, Bruce Deutscher. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Brennan of Prescott Valley; grandchildren, Sean and James Brennan of this area, and Patti Cusack of Illinois; great-grandchildren Savannah, Amanda, Kimberly and Siobhan Brennan of this area and Kate and Heidi Cusack, William and John Deutscher of Illinois; and one great-great-grandson, Jakob Christy of Prescott Valley. She is also survived by nieces, Carol Isley of New York, Jacqulyn Parry of Pennsylvania, Barbara Mitchell of Texas; nephews, David Hutson of New York, Paul Carpenter in Oregon and Bruce Carpenter in Maine.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 19, at 2 p.m., at the Prescott Samaritan Village Chapel in Prescott.

Donald W. Dailey, 74, of Mayer, born Sept. 8, 1930, in Somers Point, N.J., died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, in Mayer.

John Phillip Keller, 51, of Ash Fork, born Sept. 25, 1953, in Los Angeles, Calif., died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in Chino Valley.

Phyllis J. Henning, 72, of Prescott, born May 9, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, in Prescott.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Sunrise Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service there at 1 p.m.

Manuel Caraveo, 81, born June 17, 1924, in Mexico, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at his home in Chino Valley.

The service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 17, with visitation one hour prior, at the Chino Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, at the Chino Valley Cemetery.

Dr. Duane Brown, Ph.D., age 87, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005, in Prescott Valley. He was born April 1, 1918, in Fredonia, to Abia William Lee and Nancy Rebecca (Judd) Brown. He was a resident of Tempe from 1951 to 2003.

He received a BS degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, and completed a Chemistry Fellowship at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he met his wife, Doris Ferne Newbill. They were married June 7, 1942. She preceded him in death in 1997. He was a veteran of WWII, Naval Submarine Fleet. He was the first radar officer to serve on a submarine – assigned to the USS Shad. At the end of the war, he helped demilitarize the Japanese Fleet. After the war, he received a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Cornell University, in Ithaca, N.Y. He then took a position as Professor of Chemistry at Arizona State University, where he taught for 31 years before his retirement in 1983. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions including Sunday School President and High Counselor. His favorite church assignment was Gospel Doctrine teacher.

His many talents included singing, dancing (and teaching dance), bowling, bridge, cribbage and playing the harmonica. He was an avid sports fan and was especially faithful to all ASU sports teams. He played football on scholarship at BYU. He was best known for his generous and kind heart.

His parents, three brothers and three sisters all preceded him in death. His cousin, long-time Prescott resident Abia Judd, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Charlise Bunker and husband, Keith of Prescott, and Tracy Carlson and husband, John of Fresno, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, Kelly (Brei) Bunker of Salt Lake City, Utah, Laren Bunker of Pasadena, Calif., Kevin (Kristen) Bunker of San Diego, Calif., Jenae (Nate) Hawkins of Chandler, Traci Bunker of Flagstaff, DeeAnn (Jared) Campbell of Prescott, Chanelle (Ian) Magonigal of Mobile, Ala., Lisa Bunker of Provo, Utah, Ashley Bunker of Prescott, Kristen Carlson of Fresno, Calif., John M. Carlson of Provo, Utah, Rebecca, Steven, Bryan, Kathleen and Rachel Carlson, all of Fresno, Calif., and nine great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to the Perpetual Education Fund or the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, c/o Bishop Keith Bunker, Willow Creek Ward, 1455 Sundog Ranch Road, Prescott, AZ 86301.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alameda Ward, Tempe Stake Center (located on the corner of College Ave. and Alameda Dr.). Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m., in the Relief Society Room, with services to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow the service at the Resthaven Park-East Cemetery.
