The Humboldt Unified School District has reached a milestone.
"We are pleased to have brought the district into compliance with Arizona State Accounting requirements," Superintendent Henry Schmitt announced after receiving the news from the Arizona Audit General's Office last week.
At the end of the 2001-2002 school year, the previous HUSD administration had overspent its budget by $2.1 million.
A new administration bal-anced the budget the following year, and successfully corrected the accounting deficiencies over the next year.
"This was a tremendous effort as the problems were pervasive through the entire system," Schmitt said in a press release.
By working diligently over the past two years, the district is now in full compliance with the Uniform System of Financial Records for the State of Arizona, Schmitt said.
The district also generated a budget surplus that it carried forward into the current fiscal year. The surplus will help absorb the costs that resulted from the tremendous growth the district is experiencing.
The growth in student enrollment, along with the news of full compliance with accounting requirements, "demonstrates confidence in the school district to carry out its mission of providing a quality education to the Prescott Valley children," Schmitt said.
