2-car accident kills Dewey woman
DEWEY – An elderly woman died Thursday night in a two car-accident on Highway 69 in Dewey.
Five other people, including two children, suffered serious or critical injuries.
Prescott Valley Police Lt. P.J. Janik said at around 7 p.m. a 2002 Buick and a Chevy van collided at the Highway 69 and Bradshaw Drive intersection.
He said the investigators are still trying to determine what directions the vehicles were traveling but it appears that one was heading southbound on Highway 69 while the other one was making a left turn on Highway 69 from Bradshaw Drive.
Central Yavapai Fire District Battalion Chief Don Vasquez said emergency personnel airlifted a woman and a 9-year-old boy to two different hospitals in Phoenix. He said the woman sustained significant head and abdominal injuries. The boy was conscious but he was in critical condition because of head and hip injuries, he said. Emergency personnel took two other adult men and a 6- or 7-year-old boy to Yavapai Regional Medical Center for treatment, he said.
At about 9 p.m. authorities were still investigating the crash scene.
