Deputies arrest Prescott Valley man on sexual assault charges
PRESCOTT VALLEY – Yavapai County Sheriff's investigators arrested a 19-year-old Prescott Valley man Tuesday afternoon, charging him with several counts of dangerous crimes against children.
In June, YCSO investigators received information about an alleged sexual assault involving a juvenile girl from the Prescott Valley area. The allegations pointed to Corey Michael Staats, a former Prescott Valley resident, as the suspect.
During the investigation, YCSO investigators became aware of an alleged second incident involving another juvenile girl from the same area and, after interviewing the alleged victim, determined that Staats had allegedly sexually assaulted her, too.
After failing to find Staats for questioning, YCSO investigators received information Tuesday about his whereabouts. Investigators, along with YCSO deputies, responded to a home in the 2800 block of Cedar Springs Lane. After questioning, investigators placed him under arrest.
Staats is currently being held without bond at the Yavapai County Jail in Prescott, facing two counts of sexual conduct with a minor, sexual assault and furnishing drugs to a minor. The case remains under investigation.
Anyone with further information regarding this case should contact YCSO detective Mike Poling at 771-3278 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
