Legion brings patriotism lessons to 'Pledge classes'
Mayer and Humboldt elementary students recently got an education in the 'Pledge of Allegiance' and proper respect for the American flag from some real veterans.
Ron Johnson, Adjutant for American Legion Post 122 in Cordes Lakes, joined other veterans in teaching kids what the Pledge of Allegiance really means and what constitutes proper treatment of the American flag.
"We started (the classes) because when we marched in the parade we saw that a lot of people didn't stand when the flag came by and we figured we would teach the young ones what to do when they see the flag," he said. "We are trying to start teaching them what etiquette is needed and to respect the flag and how to dispose of it withhonor."
