3-vehicle accident ends with 1 death<BR>
Chino Valley Fire District Chief Chuck Tandy said Mrs. Emley was in "very critical condition."
Emergency personnel took a pickup driver, Louis Rogel Bedolla, 21, of Ash Fork, and a Ford Expedition driver, Elizabeth Ellen Matthews, 38, of Prescott, to Yavapai Regional Medical Center for treatment. A passenger in the pickup, Mario Velasquez Pedroza, 23, refused treatment at first, but emergency personnel took him to the hospital after he complained of abdominal and back pain.
According to Department of Public Safety Sgt. Tim Bolger, the accident occurred at around 6 p.m. when Matthews, who was southbound, apparently tried to pass a tractor-trailer.
He said it appears that she was in the northbound lane when she hit the pickup, whose driver tried unsuccessfully to avoid the collision.
"It was not quite a head-on collision," Bolger said, adding that the pickup rolled over after the impact.
He said the Expedition then hit the Emleys' sedan, which was northbound, right behind the pickup. A tractor-trailer avoided the accident, he said.
The accident remains under investigation, Bolger said.
According to DPS, as of this morning doctors have released Pedroza and Matthews after they received treatment, while Bedolla remains in the hospital. Mrs. Emley remains in critical but stable condi-tion.
