Dance Studio steppers take high honors

Several local current and former Dance Studio students won high state honors in dance recently.

On April 6, Piper Stoeckel of Prescott won Junior Miss Dance of Arizona at the Dance Masters of Arizona 2003, scholarship competition in Phoenix.

Her lyrical solo, "God Loves You," was from the soundtrack of "Touched by an Angel".

Piper, 13, will now compete for the Junior Miss Dance of America title in Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel July 5-11 at the 199th Dance Masters of American National Convention.

She studied at with The Dance Studio for four years.

Lindsay Carter, 9, a newcomer to the competition field, won the 2003 Little Miss Dance of Arizona title at the same event for her musical theater jazz dance presentation of "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

"She's not only an awesome dancer, but an awesome person," said her dance instructor, Donna Casey.

As the youngest person in the advance level at The Dance Studio, Casey said, "Lindsay works her little buns off. She will try and try until she gets … really good at it, not mediocre."

Lindsay will go to the nationals in Vegas to perform, but can't officially compete until she's 11.
