Local artist's work now hangs on walls instead of bodies
Nestled on an historic gold panning site among the boulders and trees of Lynx Creek is FireBrand Studios, the embodiment of a lifelong dream for local artist LisBeth Graham.
Graham created the newly opened FireBrand Studios as a place to teach and create, as well as an art gallery to display her own art and that of other artists such as Royce Carlson, Sam Christie, Juanita Carlson and Cecile Vogel.
After 25 years as a creative director for several national advertising agencies, Graham moved to Prescott to reconnect with clay, metal and stone sculpture.
She is also the president of the Northern Chapter of Arizona Designer Craftsmen.
Graham's new studio is fitted with an array of electric and "Raku" kilns, welding and stone cutting equipment – and a killer view.
Although Graham exhibits her work at Arte-Misia Gallery in Sedona, The Aspen Fine Arts Gallery in Flagstaff, and the Nofufi Garden Gallery in Encinitas, Calif., she is most excited about the opportunity to show and teach in Prescott.
The stand-alone FireBrand Studio is the setting for a number of upcoming workshops for artists and non-artists alike.
Ongoing six-week classes (one day a week for 3.5 hours) in creative expression offer participants a non-judgmental environment where they can have fun and learn to create without fear.
"Creativity is inside all of us," Graham said. "It just takes some positive coaching to emerge, and that's what this experience is about."
The course includes working with found objects, wire, crayon, self-hardening clay and paints, as well as taking nature walks, dancing, music and meditation to access imagery. (A shorter weekend retreat is available for out-of-towners or those who work.)
Other upcoming courses include:
