Local gymnasts excel on beam, take 3rd at Level 4 State competition
Three balance beam champions and three All-Around age division winners highlighted a third place finish for Prescott's Mile High Gymnastics at the recent Level 4 State Championship in Phoenix.
Mishon Davis's first place on the beam led to her all-around score of 37.35 to win the 8-year-old age group.
Christina Cunningham also took the top spot on beam (9.525), which was enough to motor her past the 12-year-old competition with a 37.25 all-round.
The third beam winner was Taylor Hill (9.55) who also posted the third best all-around score of 37.00 among 9-year-olds.
Tina Herbert was third on both beam and bars on her way to a fifth all-around finish in the 13-year-old age group.
In the 11-year-old competition, Stefanie Simpson was 8th all-around; Ramsey Fornara was ninth all-around and Amy Todd 17th.
Among the 10-year-olds Marissa Ponte's second place finish on beam catapulted her to a 9th all-around finish, while Chelsea Bigelow was second on vault and 26th best all-around in the 6-7 age division.
"This is a great finish for this group of gymnasts," coach Heather Davis said.
"They are a mixture of veterans and newcomers, so their performance varies. They are a great bunch of gymnasts and their hard work paid off.
"The balance beam is a major focus in the gym, and it showed at this meet."
