Drivers take care: it's back to school time<BR>
It's the same message every year, but it bears repeating loudly and often: drivers, take care, because school children are out and about and on their way back to the classroom.
Drivers, one of the most obvious things you can do is swallow your impatience at the slowness of school buses and obey those flashing lights and stop signs. Those rules are in place for a reason - no amount of time saved is worth an injury or death to a child.
Parents, take time to talk to your children about safe conduct at bus stops. This includes how they act around vehicles.
If your children ride bicycles, make sure they know about bike safety - and wear their helmets. Check with the Sheriff's Department for information on bike safety rodeos and free helmets. They are often available.
We must take time to think about our children's safety now, when we can still prevent a tragedy.
