It's time to hit that baking hard in preparation for the 10th Annual Gingerbread Village at the Prescott Resort, which opens Nov. 19.
Each year, thousands of people walk through the lobby of the Resort and enjoy an edible village, complete with hand-decorated gingerbread men and the quaint hum of a mechanical train.
Those who don't know how to make a winning entry should plan to attend the free classes, under the guidance of Prescott Resort pastry chefs, at 6 p.m., Tursday, Oct. 22, and and Monday, Nov. 4.
The resort is also currently accepting applications for gingerbread lots, the sales of which benefit Yavapai County Big Brothers/ Big Sisters.
This year, lots for sale are Cottage (12" by 12") for $20; Bungalow (18" by 24") for $35; and Estate (24" by 36") for $50.
To be eligible for prizes, a lot application and check are required to be in the administrative office at the Prescott Resort by Nov. 4. The mailing address is Prescott Resort, Gingerbread Village, 1500 Highway 69, Prescott, AZ 86301.
The categories are Chef Estate; Corporate Estate; Individual Estate, Bungalow and Cottage; Junior Youth (6th grade and younger) Bungalow or Estate; and Senior Youth (7th grade and older) Bungalow or Estate.
For judging and placement in the Village, houses must be at the Prescott Resort between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 20.
Judges select the winners Nov. 21.
The Grand Opening of the Village is Saturday, Nov. 23, complete with carolers, cookies, cider and Gingerbread Men for children of all ages to decorate.
