Reception honors scholarship winners
A reception for four local high school seniors and one college student who are receiving $1,000 scholarships from Mountain Artists Guild is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Frame and I Gallery, 229 W. Gurley St.
Jani Beatty, Katie Ruiz, Matt Ely, Alica Weide and Jennifer Riffle were selected by MAG for the scholarships and will continue their education at Yavapai and Prescott colleges.
This year's selection of winners was based on artistic ability and overall standing in his or her school and community.
Input from teachers and the community was an important consideration in making this year's selection.
The mission of the artists guild is to provide financial help to local students in the tri-city area to continue their education in art related fields.
One of the winners, Jennifer Riffle, is from Prescott College. She has taught workshops in batik, papermaking and clay, and has participated in "Focus on the child program" of the Summit County Colorado Arts Council. She is presently completing her requirements to become an art and adventure teacher.
The students' work will remain on display at the Frame and I through May 26.
