Four-stroke motors on the Hualapai pontoon boats allow rafting through the narrow canyon all the way to Lake Mead in just one day. This one-day trip is more convenient and affordable than the longer trips.
It was my first experience on a river trip with motors, and I had mixed feelings. While die-hard rafters may not appreciate the noise of the motors on the lower, smoother part of the river, they were relatively quiet as far as motors go. And people definitely appreciate the ability of the motorized boats to maneuver through the roaring rapids.
