Prescott police investigate homicide<BR>

PRESCOTT – Prescott Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old Prescott man who died Sunday evening from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police went to Travis Schmidt's home in the 600 block of West Sheldon about 5:05 p.m. to help the Prescott Fire Department. Schmidt was lying across a doorway with his legs inside the home and his upper torso under a covered patio.

Police found that he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Officials took him to Yavapai Regional Medical Center, and he died in a helicopter on the way to a Phoenix.

Police are treating his death as a homicide. An autopsy will take place later this week, said Prescott Police Sgt. Mike Kabbel.
