Both Carol Malnar benefits still on, in honor of her life

Carol Malnar, a local horsewoman and cowboy poet, whose friends were planning two separate fund-raisers to help pay her medical expenses and other expenses, died last Tuesday, from cancer.

Both groups are still carrying out their fund-raisers, however, to continue to honor Carol's death, and to help with the remaining expenses.

Doreen's Backstreet Bar & Grill event

Carol's friends from the Circle L Animal Clinic, where Carol was a veternarian assistant, set their fund-raiser for April 20, beginning at 11 a.m., at Doreen's Backstreet Bar & Gill, 2879 N. Arizona Trail, in Chino Valley. One correction from information given in last week's Chino Valley Review is that the evening is free, but costs $20 for those participating in four-man team tournaments for volleyball, one-hole golf, darts and pool.

The remainder of the event – barbecue, live band, games, prizes, horseshoe tournament, auction, pony rides, dunking booth, petting zoo, kids games and clowns – is all free.

Collier Family Farm event

The second fund-raiser will be held by other friends and family members of Carol's. They are sponsoring an old-time family dinner and dance at the Collier Family Farm from 4-10 p.m. on April 27, an evening of fun, food music and games. The farm is located at 690 W. Road 5 North, just off Highway 89.

The schedule of events for the evening is as follows:

• 4-5 p.m. – games and family activities such as Marshall Trummell, the hilarious historian, gunny sack races, volleyball and face painting.

• 5-6:30 p.m. – cowboy dinner

• 7-10 p.m. – dance to the live music provided by the Gilpin Family Fiddlers and a live D.J.

People can buy advance tickets at the Circle L Animal Clinic, 845 S. Highway 89 in Chino Valley, and Four Shoes Horse & Farrier Supply, 2093 N. Highway 89 in Chino Valley; or people can buy them at the door for $15 per person or $40 per family.

If people cannot make this night of entertainment, they can make a donation to an account in Carol Malnar's name at Stockmen's Bank.
