Sedona Jazz concert to benefit victims
The 20th annual Sedona Jazz on the Rocks benefit festival will go on as scheduled this weekend in Sedona.
In light of last week's tragedies, the organizers of Sedona Jazz on the Rocks will dedicate a portion of their proceeds to develop a music scholarship program for children of the victims. The benefit concert has been supporting music education causes for kids for 20 years.
"Sedona is a very spiritual place in and of itself," said Chris Irish, executive director of Sedona Jazz on the Rocks. "Our artists have an upbeat and inspirational mix of jazz performances planned for those who want to take a drive to experience the festival."
In addition to the music scholarship fund, festival organizers will be taking donations to support the American Red Cross.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling (928) 282-1985, or by logging onto www.sedonajazz.com.
Kicking off the event Friday evening is Chuck Mangione at the Sedona Cultural Park.
Saturday's line-up starts with the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Youth Band at 10 a.m. Pianist Cyrus Chestnut will follow. Next is the Billy Mitchell quartet and vocalist Barbara Morrison.
Continuing the line-up will be the two-time Grammy winning Yellowjackets. Blues man Doug MacLeod will round out the day's event.
A Sunday Jazz Brunch at the Sedona Hilton Resort Ballroom features the pianist Karrin Allyson with guitarist Danny Embrey and bassist Tom Warrington.
