Emma Chavez

Emma Chavez, 70, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home in Prescott.

She was born May 16, 1931, on California's Catalina Island to Joseph and Sara (Dominquez) Machado.

She married Samuel Chavez on Oct. 2, 1950. They moved to Prescott in 1991. She enjoyed doing yard work, cooking, rooting at the horse races and going to Laughlin and Las Vegas. She liked to dance and spend time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Chavez was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; son, Larry of Carson, Calif.; daughters, Deborah Pender of Camp Verde and Patsy Mikami of Long Beach, Calif.; brothers, Alex Machado of Norwalk, Calif., and Pete Machado of Van Nuys, Calif.; sisters, Lilly Machado of Venice, Calif., Adella Martinez of Vista, Calif., Sara House of San Pedro, Calif., and Pearl Machado of Van Nuys, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Private cremation was at Bradshaw Crematory, with a funeral Mass in California.

The family suggests memorial contributions to YRMC Hospice, Restricted Fund, P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley, AZ 86312.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

Virginia Luchek

Virginia Luchek, 93, of Prescott, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Prescott.

She was born July 8, 1908, in Port Huron, Mich., to Harry C. and V. Louise (Kessel) Schuberth.

Mrs. Luchek married Anthony Luchek on Dec. 21, 1935, in Ann Arbor, Mich. They moved to Arizona in 1968 from the Philippines and to the Prescott area from Phoenix in 1982.

She was a member of the Prescott Fine Arts Association and the Sharlot Hall and Phippen museums. She enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and playing bridge. She donated to numerous local organizations and was a catalyst in the construction of the performing arts auditorium at Yavapai College.

A daughter, Judith Hardes of Phoenix, survives her.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Anthony, in October 2000.

Private family services will be at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Margaret T. Morris Center, 878 Sunset Ave., Prescott, AZ 86305.
