Guild to stage annual musicians' competition
The Prescott Symphony Guild's annual Young Musicians' Competition is from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Yavapai College Performance Hall.
All classical music students from Yavapai County are eligible to compete in either the Junior Division (grades 6 through 9) or Senior Division (grades 10 through 12) in one of five categories: voice, piano, strings, woodwinds and brass.
Awards range from $175 to $300 in each category in both divisions. In addition, the first place winners of the divisions will compete for the Gordon Awards' Overall Excellence in Technical Proficiency and Stage Presence of $750 for first place and $250 for second.
Using the same criteria, winners in the Junior Division receive a Kearns Award of $150 for first place and $100 for second.
First place winners of the Symphony Guild Scholarship Competition will then perform in a public concert at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Prescott Fine Arts Theater, 208 N. Marina St.
