Yavapai College will host the annual College Goal Sunday, where students and prospective students can get help from financial-aid professionals in the sometimes-confusing process of applying for scholarships, grants and loans.
College Goal Sunday at Yavapai College (YC) Prescott Campus, one of 19 sites statewide, begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, on the second floor of Building 1. The event is free and open to anyone planning to attend any college or university.
Other local higher-education institutions that will be represented at College Goal Sunday include Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), Prescott College, Northern Arizona University – Prescott, and possibly others.
Financial-aid professionals from the local schools, University of Phoenix, Citibank and Chela Financial will be volunteering time to help students and families. One-on-one help will be available for those who need specific answers, based upon their personal financial situation. YC's computer lab will be open for participants to apply online for federal financial aid and to do online scholarship searches.
The event will begin with the workshop by Dan Lupin from ERAU. He will repeat the presentation at 3 p.m.
YC will have representatives on hand from various programs, including Career Skills, construction technology, business, paralegal, fire science, student support services, campus life and Veterans Upward Bound. In addition, Bob Hoskovec of YC admissions will make presentations at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on "Becoming a Student at Yavapai College." At the end of each presentation, there will be a drawing to win a $100 YC book scholarship.
