Marvin Arthur Kooken
Marvin Arthur Kooken, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his home in Prescott.
Mr. Kooken was born April 25, 1915, in Sanish, N.D., to Arthur and Elizabeth (Songer) Kooken.
Mr. Kooken married Lillian Larson April 25, 1936, in Grand Rapids, Minn. He was a long-time resident of southern California and Las Vegas, Nev., before moving to Prescott in 1997.
He worked as a roofer for more than 30 years, and was a member of the Roofers Local #36 of Los Angeles, Calif. He received a gold watch from them in 1998 recognizing his 50 years as a member.
Mr. Kooken enjoyed back-country motorcycling, rock hunting, RV traveling, bread baking and cross-stitching.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lillian; sons, Ronald of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jerry of Prescott; sister, Isla Carpenter of Klamath Falls, Ore.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hampton Funeral Home Victorian chapel, 240 S. Cortez St., Prescott.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Yavapai Regional Medical Center Hospice Unit, 1003 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301.
Ruth Arnot Fleming
Ruth Arnot Fleming, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Schuyler, Neb.
Mrs. Fleming attended Stephens College and Doane College before graduating with a music degree from Midland College. She taught music in the Scribner and Norfolk, Neb., high schools and continued a private vocal studio throughout her life.
She lived in Prescott for 22 years after retiring in Norfolk.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, Bill of Santa Fe, N.M.; brother, Jim of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Her husband of 57 years, Morris Fleming, preceded her in death in 1997.
A memorial service for family and friends will be Dec. 17 in Prescott.
Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne of Las Vegas, Nev., helped the family with arrangements.
Charles A. Reed
Charles A. Reed, 78, of Prescott Valley, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Prescott.
He was born July 30, 1922, in Hemet, Calif., to Earl and Blanche (Hagan) Reed.
Mr. Reed served in the Air Force in World War II. He married Miriam Larson Oct. 17, 1945. He taught science at Hemet High School for many years and retired to Prescott Valley in 1991.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Alan of Aztec, N.M., Scott of Everson, Wash., and Chris of Maui, Hawaii; daughter, Kathryn Charbonneau of Norwalk, Calif.; sisters, Bea Beckley of Prescott Valley and Marjorie Huntoon of Hemet, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
There were private family services and private cremation at Bradshaw Crematory, Prescott Valley.
Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel helped the family with arrangements.
