Joseph John Barth

Joseph John Barth, 91, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at his home in Mayer.

He was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Chicago, Ill.

Mr. Barth married Lucile in Crown Point, Ind., in 1964. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150 in Chicago, Ill., and worked in St. John, Ind., before retiring in 1981 and moving to Mayer.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Prescott and the Gideons in Indiana, and attended Mayer Community Church. Mr. Barth enjoyed reading and was an all-around handyman.

Surviving are his wife, Lucile; daughters, Judith Fleming of Spring Lake, Mich., Elizabeth Houghton of Hammond, Ind., Melanie Drake of Demotte, Ind., and Beverly Burgess of Highland, Ind.; sister, Emma Bedore of Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

There were private family services.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mayer Community Church, P.O. Box 743, Mayer, AZ 86333.

Sunrise Funeral Home and Crematory helped the family with arrangements.

Elinor Grace McAlister

Elinor Grace McAlister, 86, of Prescott, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Prescott.

She was born April 29, 1914, in Douglas, to James and Elva (Coos) Seale.

Mrs. McAlister had lived in the Skull Valley and Prescott areas since 1947. She was a school teacher around Arizona for 30 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Clairann Cave; son, Dave Hansen; sisters, Ferne Hoffman and Barbara Terry; and seven grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, Elmer Hansen, Elliott Pearson and Brooks McAlister, daughter, Venita Wingfield; and a granddaughter, Shelby Hansen.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hampton Funeral Home, Prescott.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Prescott Church of Christ, 1495 E. Rosser St., Prescott, AZ 86303.

Elizabeth Lynn "Bette" Schearer

Elizabeth Lynn "Bette" Schearer, 79, of Reno, Nev., died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Reno.

She was born March 31, 1921, in Philipsburg, Pa., to Austin C. Lynn, M.D., and Carrie Hunter Lynn.

Mrs. Schearer married John Schearer June 10, 1944, while he was stationed at the naval air station in Pensacola, Fla. She taught school in Lafayette, Calif., for more than 30 years, and was recognized as a mentor teacher by the state of California's superintendent of public education.

She lived in Orinda, Calif., for 33 years, before moving to Prescott in 1992. She moved to Reno in 1997.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Akrop of Reno, Nev., and three grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1997, and daughter Lynda Johnstun in 1985.

Private graveside services will be at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, Calif.

Ross, Burke & Knobel Mortuary in Reno, Nev., helped the family with arrangements.

David N. Walsh

David N. Walsh, 74, of Paulden, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Prescott.

He was born Feb. 12, 1926, in El Paso, Texas, to Joseph and Alma (Pardon) Walsh.

Mr. Walsh served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II and as a ground soldier in Korea. He worked for 20 years as a manager for Christler Finance Co. He had lived in Paulden for 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, Collette; daughter, Karey Collopy; sons, David and Roary; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Chino Valley Southern Baptist Church. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix.

Hampton Funeral Home helped the family with arrangements.

M. Dorothy Poppe

M. Dorothy Poppe, 89, of Prescott, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Prescott.

She was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Ogdensburg, Wis., to Emil Laufer and Elizabeth Helms.

Mrs. Poppe worked for Reynolds Aluminum before retiring in Prescott. She had lived in Prescott for 20 years.

Surviving are her sons, Don, Fred and Dave; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
