The third-ranked Yavapai College Roughrider soccer team begins their trek for a fourth national championship this Saturday against fellow ACCAC member, Chandler/Gilbert Community College.
The game highlights a busy week of JUCO sports in the area as Faye Matsumoto's volleyball squad makes its way to the Storm Center Saturday for a conference matchup with Arizona Western.
The soccer game begins at 6 p.m. at the home of the Roughriders, Ken Lindley Field in Prescott.
On Wednesday, Mike Panalione's team entertains the afternoon crowd with a rare 12:30 p.m. kickoff time against Glendale Community College. These two teams have had significant games in the past and the Yavapai kickers look to continue their dominance with a victory over the visiting Gauchos.
The Lady Rider volleyball team will also begin their season this weekend with back-to-back matches on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the lady netters will travel to Phoenix College to tangle with the Lady Bears in the first regular season and conference match of the 2001-02 season.
The game begins at 7 p.m. on the campus of Phoenix College.
On Saturday, Yavapai plays host to the Lady Matadors from Arizona Western College (currently ranked in the pre-season top 10 poll). The match begins at 3 p.m. in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
Admission prices for all YC athletic events will be $4 for adults and $1 for students (elementary school, middle school, high school and college.)
Following Saturday's match, YC will not return to Prescott again until Sept. 5 when it meets conference rival Pima.
