Raymond Lee Contreras

Raymond Lee Contreras, 84, a long-time resident of the Kirkland and Skull Valley areas, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, in Prescott.

He was born Jan. 7, 1916, in Prescott to Edward Contreras and Inocentie (Levias) Contreras.

Mr. Contreras grew up on the family ranch near Wikieup and took care of it until the family sold it. He also worked on various other ranches in the area. He attended school at Tonto Flats and graduated from the eighth grade. He was a top hand wherever he worked.

He married Ruth Vickers on May 20, 1940. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Kane of Prescott; brothers, Mickey of Prescott and Richard of Tucson; sisters, Irene Hilberts of Prescott, Catherine Garner of Kingman, and Angie McNiell of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.

His wife, Ruth, preceded him in death four weeks ago.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St. in Prescott.

The family suggests memorials to Family Hospice Care, 100 E. Sheldon St., Prescott, AZ 86301.

Olive M. Tippett

Olive M. Tippett, 91, of Prescott, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Prescott.

She was born March 24, 1909, in Fairbank, Iowa, to August and Grace (Jolley) Bahe.

Mrs. Tippett married James Tippett Nov. 12, 1944, in Pasco, Wash. She taught high school math in Gensco, Iowa, for 28 years and in Orange, Calif., for 10 years. She retired in 1971 in California. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Iowa and a member of the Valley Christian Center in Prescott Valley. She enjoyed traveling, reading and being with family and friends. She and her husband moved to Arizona from California in 1975.

Survivors include a great nephew, James Copsey of Mayer; and family friends, Howard and Sharon Bunger of New Hampton, Iowa.

Her husband, James, preceded her in death in 1992.

Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Sunrise Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo, Iowa, with a visitation one hour prior to service, with the Rev. Bruce Hobert officiating.
