Lela Burge, 105, of Phoenix, a former resident of Prescott, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at the Arizona Eastern Star Home in Phoenix.
She was born Dec. 28, 1894, in Wellington, Ohio, to Robert C. and Bertha (Adel) Johnson.
Mrs. Burge was a concert pianist, and was a piano instructor until her retirement in 1996. She lived in Prescott from 1959 to 1996.
After playing the pump organ for six years and the piano for two, she was accepted into Ohio's Oberlin's Music Conservatory when she was in the eighth grade. She put in seven hours of practice a day while a student, and performed in many concert halls.
Mrs. Burge had planned on retiring when she moved to Prescott in 1959, but started teaching piano again upon her husband's death in 1961. When she did retire in 1996, she had been teaching for 80 years.
Surviving are numerous cousins, including Donna Beaumont of Phoenix.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Eugene Field Burge, in 1961, and son, Theodore, killed in action in World War II.
Services will be at the Grove Street Cemetery in New London, Ohio, later this week.

Robert William Crane Sr.
Robert William Crane Sr., 38, of Chino Valley, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in Prescott.
He was born April 14, 1962, in Phoenix, to Harry W. and Margaret (Pole) Crane.
Mr. Crane enjoyed fishing, hunting and singing with his family. His family knew him as a loving father, brother, son and true friend.
Surviving are his father, Harry; daughter, Kristen; sons, Robert Jr. and William; and brother, Richard.
Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel Mortuary.
Winifred Eva Inman
Winifred Eva Inman, 70, of Spring Valley, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Cottonwood.
She was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Bedford, Mass., to Fred and Daisey (Fletcher) Greenwood.
Mrs. Inman married her husband, Robert, on July 19, 1947, in Utica, N.Y. She moved to Phoenix in 1952, then to the Mayer/Spring Valley area 25 years ago.
She was a member of the Spring Valley Community Church, and enjoyed her miniature roses and African violets.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; son, Robert of Spring Valley; brothers, Gerald Bills of Arizona and Charles Bills of Utica, N.Y.; sisters, Bessy Doolen and Doris Schreck, both of Utica, N.Y.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Spring Valley Community Church, with the Rev. Ed Poppelwell officiating.

E. Vernon Martin
E. Vernon Martin, 84, a resident of Prescott and Crown King for most of his life, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Prescott Valley Samaritan Care Center.
He was born March 14, 1916, in Phoenix, to William J. and Edna J. (Marr) Martin.
Mr. Martin was a miner and rancher.
Surviving are five great-nieces, three great-nephews, five great-great-nieces and three great-great-nephews.
There will be private family services.
