PRESCOTT – Two men are in jail on attempted robbery charges after a Sunday morning incident in downtown Prescott.
According to a police report, a couple was walking near the intersection of Willis and Cortez streets at about 1:30 a.m. when two men, 23-year-old Eddie L. Fletcher and 30-year-old Rickey Lee Fievez, asked them for a cigarette.
After the man said he had none to give them, Fletcher and Fievez walked on, then allegedly returned, knocked both the man and woman down and went through the woman's pockets looking for money.
When the man flagged down a City of Prescott street-sweeper, the two suspects ran from the scene empty-handed. The street-sweeper and another witness confirmed the victims' descriptions of the suspects and of the incident, and an officer found the two men at a nearby motel.
After a brief interview with the suspects, who denied involvement in the incident, police booked them into the Yavapai County Jail.
