HUSD opens doors in 10 days

Students prep to go back to school

PRESCOTT VALLEY — And...they're off! To school, that is.

This week, the local stores will fill with Prescott Valley, Dewey and Humboldt families, catching the last-minute school supply bargains, trying on new school clothes.

School starts Monday, Aug. 14, for the eight Humboldt Unified School District campuses. And school phones are ringing off the hook with questions about registration, class assignments, bus schedules and more.

For parents new to the district — boundary lines divide the campus attendance areas at all schools, except Liberty Traditional School, the district's alternative, back-to-basics K-8 campus, which any district students may attend.

Anyone who has moved to the district this summer and hasn't planned to register children can call the district office at 772-9200 immediately to find out which schools the youngsters will attend. Then the parents should get to those schools with birth certificates and immunization records in hand to register.

If a child isn't up to date on his or her shots, Saturday's free immunization clinic, Super Shot Saturday, is available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prescott Valley Senior Center (CASA) building, Robert Road and Loos Drive. Bring your child's immunization records along — they won't get shots without them.

In specific, if your child will attend Glassford Hill Middle School, register as soon as possible. Sixth grade and new student orientation is at 6 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium.

Seventh- and eighth-graders can pick up their schedules at the school Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A complete list of district bus schedules can be found on Pages 14 and 15 of the Wednesday, Aug. 2, Prescott Valley Tribune.
