Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation, a nonprofit helping local foster children, will hold its annual Costumes for Kids 5K Fun Run on Oct. 27 at the courthouse plaza in Prescott, from 9 a.m. until noon. This year’s event is sponsored by Augie’s. The 5k proves to be a one-of-a-kind experience; feeling like a Halloween party with music, games, and prizes yet raising money for and awareness of the foster children in Yavapai County.
“Our family attends every year, it’s so much fun!” – 2018 5K Fun Run Participant
Parents, children, and 5K fanatics, alike, arrive at the Costumes for Kids 5K Fun Run an hour early to register or sign in. Every runner gets a branded T-shirt and, later, pizza. The 5K starts at 10 a.m., can be walked, and is untimed.
If walking isn’t your thing: vendors provide game booths, Arizona Batman and Ghost Busters offer photo ops, while Magic 99.1 DJs in the background. As each runner makes their way back to the square to complete the 5k, they are greeted with cheers and rewarded with food. They see kids dancing, people winning prizes, and making memories with their families. It’s not just about the people who show up to raise money that will help the local kiddos in foster care; it’s about the fun they have, and the memories families create.
The 5K Fun Run is free to all foster families and children 16 years of age or younger. Individual registration is $25 and teams (of 8) register for $135.
