Native American artist Karen Clarkson will present a free public talk “Art and Social Commentary: Changing the Narrative” hosted by the Prescott Art Docents, 10:30 a.m. at Prescott Center for the Arts Theatre, 208 N. Marina.

Clarkson’s story is of how art can influence lives. How it gets our attention and prompts us to ask questions. How it shows us what can be and what we should aspire to. How it inspires us and shows us where we can achieve more. How it gives us hope.

She states, “As a Native American artist, I am constantly having a conversation with myself regarding the issue of identity. Too many people today hold a false story about Native Americans in their hearts and minds. This story makes us invisible or reduces us to stereotypes. It fuels individual people’s biases and racism.  Invisibility and myths harm our children, our peoples and our nations. They certainly deny our humanity.”
