Award-winning architect Bill Otwell will present a free public talk “Prescott Historic Preservation Update” hosted by the Prescott Art Docents, 10:30 am at Prescott Center for the Arts Theatre, 208 N. Marina. Websites: otwell-architects.net, prescottartdocents.net.

Otwell is principal of Otwell Associates Architects, a Prescott firm specializing in historic preservation, solar and energy efficient design, and preservation of natural site features. Otwell’s love of preservation is contagious and his firm’s efforts are prominent in giving Prescott its unique image: Tis Gallery, County Courthouse, Milagro Arts Center, Hassayampa  Hotel, Granite Street Garage, Yavapai College Rock House, Elks Opera House, Gurley Street Grill, Prescott Public Library, Prescott Santa Fe Depot, as well as residences and other buildings elsewhere in Arizona.

A native Arizonan born and raised in Phoenix, Otwell moved to Prescott after completing his B.A. from Arizona State University in Architectural and Environmental Design in 1973. Before establishing his own firm in 1979, he worked for a local architect, and later served as Assistant Director of Planning for the City of Prescott.

This year his firm won the AIA Grand Canyon Firm of the year award. In 2018 Bill was recipient of the Prescott Heritage Foundation’s “Heritage Keeper” award. And more familiar is the Governor’s Heritage Preservation Honor award in 2015 for the three-year rehabilitation of the Yavapai County Courthouse.
