Kenneth Clyde Kyer

December 27, 1957 - March 28, 2016

Kenneth Clyde Kyer, 58, resident of Prescott since 1971, passed away on March 28, 2016. He was born on Dec. 27, 1957, in Compton, California, to the late Clyde Patrick Kyer and Lula Bell Sipe.
Ken followed in his father’s footsteps and hired on with the railroad in 1983. He was later promoted to his dream job as a locomotive engineer in 1993, and worked for 33 years on the railroad before retiring earlier this year. He was the local chairman of the Brotherhood of Local Train Engineers Division 647 for 10 years. In December 2000, he started the Make-a-Wish Train, which partnered with the Make-a-Wish Foundation and other Arizona children’s organizations to give children with medical difficulties, in the foster system, or with parents deployed on active military duty a fun day out on a train. He organized and ran this event every year and served more than 6,000 children and families during his 15 years running this program.
He was a graduate of Prescott High School, and also worked at the Second Hand Man furniture shop for 26 years.
Anyone who knew Ken knew that he was a loving and generous soul. He took great enjoyment from visiting with grandkids, playing with his dogs, traveling, fishing, camping, shooting, riding motorcycles and making googley-eyes at his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Juliana Hutchins Kyer; three of his four children, Shawna, Kendra and Scott; son-in-law Bret Huber; four stepchildren, Melanie, Lauren, Daniel and Kathleen; four grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his daughter, Misty.
Services for Ken will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 Sandretto Drive in Prescott, Arizona.
