Orbin D. (Hap) Joplin died March 10, 2016 in Prescott, Arizona. He was born March 10, 1931 in Portales, New Mexico to Hollis and Lula Joplin.
Hap graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in Southern California and joined the U.S. Air Force where he spent 24 years on active duty, followed by 20 years in federal civil service working for the Air Force, finishing his career in Spokane, Washington. He spent many years pitching softball from teenager to age 65 and played lead guitar in various country bands from junior high school until his death.
Hap married Judith Gordon in 1999 and moved from Spokane to Prescott in 2001 where they joined the Greater Arizona Country and Western Swing Music Association. They played with various bands around Prescott, including Acker night, along with venues in Yuma where they spent the winter.
He was predeceased by his son John and his parents. He is survived by his wife Judith; sons, James, Dave and Mark; daughter Laurie from a previous marriage; brother Bruce (Buddy) Ezzell; sister Gail Grobe; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Private military service will be at Prescott National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life is at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Antelope Hills Golf Course, Centennial Center in Prescott, Arizona.
Hampton Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
