Matthew William Jackson

unknown - March 27, 2016

Musician, beloved husband and family member, Matt Jackson, passed away in Prescott on March 27, 2016 after a determined effort to overcome leukemia.
Matt was a passionate musician from a young age growing up in Bloomington, Indiana. For over five decades, Matt performed, composed and produced music on three continents, while helping to educate the next generation of musicians. A skilled improvisational pianist, Matt could play what seemed like an effortless, magical flow of music that expressed wordless beauty. He also had a nearly two-decade high tech career in
Silicon Valley, Colorado and The Netherlands. His passion for life led to extensive travel in the U.S. and abroad and many outdoor pursuits, culminating in a
solo walk from San Francisco, California to Prescott, Arizona. Always expanding boundaries, Matt studied and loved playing tabla, acting and film.
Matt shared his life with his beloved partner and wife, Dr. Lori Barnes. They enjoyed life together in Prescott, traveled together and were hugely involved in shaping the young lives of their nieces and nephews. Matt was an intellectual, an artist, a lover, and an enthusiast. His music, his infectious laugh and his compassion touched many lives and will continue to in memory.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on April 9, 2016, at The Plaza View, 120 W. Gurley St., Prescott, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Matt Jackson Scholarship Fund for Young Musicians, 520 Franklin St., Prescott, AZ, 86302.
