Firefighter crews are working a wildfire burning north of Highway 89A between Prescott and Prescott Valley.

The fire was first reported around 1:50 p.m. near Granite Dells Parkway and it quickly began moving northeast, driven by 20 mph winds.

As of 2:30 p.m., the fire - titled the Prescott Valley Fire - had burned about 300 acres of grassland, said Rick Chase, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Fire Marshall.

“It’s moving toward the Poquito Valley area, but still a good distance away from there,” Chase said. “We're very lucky there are no neighborhoods or houses in the immediate area.”

Drivers should expect delays on the Highway between Granite Dells Parkway and Glassford Hill Road until the blaze is out.
