Joyce Ruth Spitz, 78, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Joyce resided in Prescott, Arizona, with her husband of 58 years, Carl, and their two dogs. She was born to Ed and Ruth Tanner in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Nov. 30, 1940.
Her family soon moved to California, where she attended North Hollywood High School. This would be the place that she would be introduced to Carl through a classmate. They married in August of 1960 and would go on to have two children, Pamela Gail (Mike) and Michael Spitz (Lori). Joyce and Carl had a love for dogs and would take over Carl’s father’s dog kennel in North Hollywood in 1962.
They boarded dogs and also trained numerous animals for various projects. They packed up the family and moved to Prescott in 1978. Joyce loved to travel in their fifth wheel and spending time with their friends. She also volunteered her time working in the Yavapai Hospital gift shop and was also a long-time member of the local Lioness Club. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Meredith, Kaitlyn, Paul and Jessica, as well as three great-grandchildren, Vinny Jack and Noah. Joyce led a very fulfilling and jubilant life with her family and friends and touched so many lives with her kindness. She will be missed by so many.
Thanks to the kind and caring folks at Hospice of the Pines, who showed such love during the hardest part of her life.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1101 Sandretto Dr., Prescott, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Yavapai Humane Society or to Hospice of the Pines.
