Cassie The Tiger
Local Bengal tiger “Cassie” passed away from medical complications this past weekend, Prescott’s Heritage Park Zoo announced Monday afternoon.
“It is with heavy and saddened hearts that we announce the passing our Bengal tiger, “Cassie,” zoo spokesman Ron Brashear said in a statement.
“Cassie,” who died Sunday, Feb. 3, under veterinary treatment, was rescued from a zoo in Nebraska in January 2009 that was forced to close. She was a member of the Heritage Park Zoo animal family for a decade.
“She warmed the hearts of all who knew her and delighted the guests with her amazing personality,” Brashear said. “It is an understandably sad time for [us], as we know what she meant to so many.”
The statement thanked Dr. Ken Skinner and the veterinary staff at Prescott Animal Hospital, as well as the zoo keeper staff for “their dedication and ongoing care” for “Cassie’s” welfare.
A memorial will be set up in front of her enclosure for those community members wishing to visit the Sanctuary in her memory.
