PRESCOTT VALLEY — With four of the seven Grand Canyon region football teams scoring 50-plus points against their opponents last Friday night, Bradshaw Mountain only scored 42, but still managed to hold on to the No. 1 spot in the Grand Canyon Media Football Poll, released Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears (4-0, 0-0 Grand Canyon) outlasted Greenway 42-20 last week, and are now a perfect 4-0 to begin the season. According to MaxPreps.com, Bradshaw Mountain hasn’t started a season 5-0 in the last 14 years dating back to 2004, which is how far back records are recorded by the website.

The Bears have won four of their first five contests in four different seasons (2013, 2011, 2010, 2005) since 2004. They are 8-1 under second-year head coach Chuck Moller since starting the 2017 campaign 0-5.

Bradshaw Mountain received 10 first-place votes in this week’s media poll. Mingus (3-1, 0-0 Grand Canyon) received one first-place vote and had 59 total points for second overall.

With a big 56-0 win over Cortez last week, Coconino jumped two spots to No. 3 in the poll with 55 total points. Prescott (2-1, 0-0 Grand Canyon) came in at No. 4 with 49 points after a 56-7 win over Deer Valley thanks to a school-record seven rushing touchdowns by Austin Clark, who was awarded the Arizona Republic’s player of the week.
