Obituary: Helene Kaplan

Helene Kaplan

Helene Kaplan

Helene Kaplan died peacefully on Oct. 6, 2018, in her own bed, surrounded by family. She was 94. Within days of passing she: demonstrated her ability to touch her toes (unprovoked), solved a difficult riddle involving a dead man, an unopened package, and a field, recited the poem “Invictus” from memory (three out of four verses), and ate an inordinate amount of dark chocolate.

Helene was the youngest female lieutenant in WWII. She was a physical therapist in Arizona, working with kids with cerebral palsy and Visiting Nurse Services. She loved her work.

She was witty, fun, irreverent, kind, loved to travel and had nothing left she wished to accomplish as she had done it all. Affectionately known as “Nana Banana” to her grandkids. She was and is adored by her three grandchildren, Makyle, Asher and Nashelley; and her daughter, Deedee.
